October 3, 2025

Dear students,  &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

While the negotiations provide hope that a resolution to the work action will be found quickly, unfortunately the FMSQ pressure tactics remain in place as of now.  Therefore, we need to plan for a fourth week of contingency measures, starting October 6. Fortunately, the FMOQ, which had called on its members to stop teaching as of October 4, has postponed this pressure tactic for now.

We understand how difficult this uncertainty is and appreciate your continued flexibility and patience. Thank you for staying engaged and adaptable during this time. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

What we’ve done / What we plan to do

This week, we have:  &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

  • communicated with students via email and met with student leadership from each campus
  • provided an extra drop-in CaRMS planning session in collaboration with OMLA for Med-4
  • reviewed the course elements data for period 3 and the period 4 clerkship form data for geriatric medicine, emergency medicine, psychiatry, internal medicine, and surgery
  • planned contingency measures for week four of the FMSQ pressure tactics, as well as a plan to return to clinical settings should the pressure tactics be lifted
  • continued advocating for visiting electives and considerations for CaRMS  &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

 Next week, we will be:  &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

  • completing the review of block 1 data (logs, EPAs, clerkship form data) for pediatrics and obstetrics & gynecology
  • planning contingency measures in the case of a fifth week of pressure tactics as well as a plan for the return to clinical settings should the pressure tactics be lifted
  • communicating with students either via email or town hall meetings  &²Ô²ú²õ±è;
  • participating in advocacy meetings  &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

Update on AFMC advocacy &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

 As a result of advocacy efforts from the four Quebec medical schools in meetings with the AFMC, the AFMC Board of Directors will be looking into options for CaRMS residency matching for the class of 2026.
