University of Environment and Sustainable Development
The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), located in Somanya in Ghana鈥檚 Eastern Region, is a public university dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation in the environment, sustainable development and natural resource management. Established by an Act of Parliament (Act 898) in 2015 and officially inaugurated in 2020, UESD is one of Ghana鈥檚 newest public universities, developed with a strategic focus on addressing global and local environment and agribusiness challenges through education, research, and community engagement.
UESD offers academic programs through its Schools of Natural and Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development. These programs include undergraduate and graduate-level courses in areas such as climate change, environmental science, geography, biological sciences, environment and public health, and resource governance. With an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and sustainability, the university prepares students to contribute meaningfully to Ghana鈥檚 development and the broader goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda.
The university is guided by its core values of Honesty, Opportunity, Perseverance, and Enterprising (HOPE), and supports its academic mission through key units including research and innovation, quality assurance, international programs, and community outreach. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, has commended the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, for his recognition and support for the University鈥檚 environmental mandate. He acknowledged the Okyehene鈥檚 efforts in involving UESD鈥檚 students and faculty in his environmental protection initiatives.
The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) has successfully concluded a three-day inception meeting for the Agric-Waste Management and Aquaculture Technology Entrepreneurship Initiative under the 鈥楴kabom鈥 project. The meeting which was held in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua brought together project members from the University to chart the way forward for the initiative.
A three-day inception workshop to plan the implementation of the 鈥楴kabom鈥 Project for the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) has opened in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital. The workshop brought together members of the Project Management Committee, made up of experts in agro-waste management, aquaculture, entrepreneurship, academia, and research and other fields.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, held a meeting with Heads of Departments, Divisions, and Units to brief them on the 鈥淣kabom鈥 project and UESD鈥檚 integral role in its implementation. This engagement formed part of the project鈥檚 inception phase.
