Research curriculum within the MDCM Program听

Research is integrated throughout the MDCM program to foster critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and evidence-based practice. Students engage in both scholarly activities and formal training in research methods:听

1. Various scholarly activities included throughout the curriculum, e.g. Journal clubs, EBM small groups and assignments听

2. Formal courses focusing on research: Research Fundamentals 1 and 2 offered during the Fundamentals of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) component.听

  • RF 1 focuses on the elaboration of a research proposal. While the course objective is to produce this proposal, students can certainly approach faculty members to see if their research proposal could be carried out!听
  • RF 2 focuses on the analysis and potential application of research results.听 This course allows the student to look at research results from the lens of both the researcher and the evidence-based clinician.听 听

3. Research electives: During Clerkship, 2-4 weeks research electives are available to students. More information is available on the Electives webpage.听

Extra-curricular research opportunities听

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a research-intensive and leading institution in this domain. Faculty members welcome students to join their research projects. 听

The FMHS Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs Office coordinates funding and support for research projects, including:听

Summer Research Bursary Program听
  • Eight consecutive weeks of full-time research during the summer (June鈥揂ugust)听

  • Standard stipend: $3,200听

  • Students are expected to engage directly in the scientific process beyond data collection听

  • Participants may present their work at the annual Student Research Day听

Fall and Winter Bursary Program听
  • Support for 12 weeks of part-time research听

  • Standard stipend: $2,000听

  • Enables students to continue summer research or begin new part-time projects

  • Locally developed research proposals may be eligible for inclusion in the Summer Research Bursary Program.听

  • CO students may participate in both a local CO Research Day and the CISSSO Research Day. Students are also encouraged to participate in 鈥Les midis de la rel猫ve鈥 organized by the CISSSO Research Centre, offering a platform where students can present research results of projects they are involved in. 听 听听

  • CO students are also welcome to contact Montreal-based researchers.听
