The symposium aims to gather healthcare professionals of different disciplines to share their insights and latest research in the clinical management of esophageal and gastric malignancies. This platform will provide a unique opportunity to interact with international leaders in the field of Upper Gastro-Intestinal Cancers and learn about novel approaches that can be implemented in daily practice.

Speakers:Ìý

Suzanne Gisbertz

Dr. Suzanne Gisbertz is currently a consultant upper-GI surgeon and principal investigator at the Amsterdam UMC, University of Amsterdam. She got her PhD in 2009. She is a proctor for minimally invasive esophagectomies and gastrectomies in the Netherlands and abroad. Her research topics are lymph node metastases and extent of lymphadenectomy in esophagogastric cancer, minimally invasive upper GI surgery and postoperative outcome and quality of life following upper GI surgery. She is board member of the NVGIC, ISDE, ESDE, ESA and program chair of the EAES. She is also organizer of the ESDE 2025 and IGCC 2025 and NVGIC 2024. She is a member of several guideline committees, both nationally and internationally.

Nina N. Sanford

Dr. Nina N. Sanford is an Associate Professor and Chief of Gastrointestinal Radiation at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW). She grew up in the Boston area, received her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed a residency in radiation oncology at the combined Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital program in 2018. Now in Dallas, her academic interests are in clinical trials, both at the institutional and cooperative group levels. She is a member of the NCI Pancreas Task Force, chairs the NRG Pancreas Working Group and is PI of a Phase III cooperative group trial assessing the role of dose-escalated radiotherapy in locally advanced pancreas cancer. Through conducting and researching clinical trials, her goal is to elucidate when and in whom radiotherapy should be used, and how to design trials that can best demonstrate the value of radiotherapy. Dr. Sanford enjoys writing and teaching, and serves on the editorial board ofJCO. She has received numerous accolades such as the UTSW 2021 Leaders in Clinical Excellence Rising Star Award.

Roos Pouw

Dr. Roos Pouw is a gastroenterologist at the University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands. She is specialized in endoscopic detection of early upper gastrointestinal neoplasia, and minimally invasive endoscopic treatment techniques such as ablation, endoscopic resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection, as well as management of defects in the upper GI-tract using endoscopic vacuumtherapy. Next to her clinical work, she is Secretary General Elect for United European Gastroenterology.
