Course requirements
In addition to conducting research and completing a聽thesis, MSc students are required to complete three 3-credit graduate-level courses. There are no required courses (unless indicated in the acceptance letter) and the exact combination of coursework is determined by the student and their supervisor. Graduate-level courses offered in other departments can also be taken for credit. MSc students must also register for one thesis research credit "course" per semester: PSYT- 691, followed by PSYT- 692 and PSYT- 693 to accumulate credits for their thesis research project. It is recommended to take these courses in your first three terms, one per term, until completion. Students will not be able to submit their initial or final thesis until all course requirements are completed, this includes the three Thesis Research courses.听DO NOT register more than once for the same course. Students must also register for the overall graduate program in the fall and winter terms by selecting REGN RCGR and the CRN for that term. CRN's are posted each term on the Psychiatry Courses page of our website, and will also be shared by email each term during the registration period.
Please ensure that you are aware of the registration and course requirements that are mandatory for your specific graduate program. It is the student's responsibility to confirm that they are on track with the course and registration requirements associated with their program of study and that they register for these courses within the Registration Deadlines posted each year. If you need to register for a course but it is past the registration deadline, please use the Student Records Webform and inform the department. Kindly note that if your registration is approved, it may be subject to late registration fees.
If you are planning to complete the program in a year, please alert the graduate.psychiatry [at] mcgill.ca (Graduate Program Coordinator) as early as possible to request further instructions.
Registration outside of the Department
For students wishing to take courses outside of our department, you will need to obtain permission from your supervisor and send the supervisor's approval to the聽Graduate.psychiatry [at] mcgill.ca (Graduate Program Coordinator)聽and include the聽danielle.groleau [at] mcgill.ca (Graduate Program Director)聽in cc. You will also need to fill out a聽student records form.听
To register for courses at other Quebec Universities, please request permission from your supervisor, inform the Psychiatry Graduate Program office (graduate.psychiatry [at] mcgill.ca) and use the聽聽form to apply.
Double Program Students
Psychiatry residents must register as double program students using the Student Records聽webform.
