Course: EAST 530 Fourth Level Chinese (3 credits) – D2- section 001

Teaching Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 09:35 am-10:25 am

Course Starts and End Dates: January 5, 2026 - April 14, 2026

Location: SH680 rm 465

Course Details

Asian Language & Literature: Development of skills required to conduct academic discussions in oral as well as in written forms. Teaching materials include original texts from Chinese newspapers, Chinese literature and videos.

Salary: $11,479

This is a 3-credit course. It is the Winter 2026 section 001 of course EAST 530-D2. The position is only for the Winter 2026 academic term.

Position Summary

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan;

b) delivery of the Course;
c) evaluation of students;
d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades;
e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;
f) upon request, review of their students’ grades;
g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;

Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit.

An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material.

Teaching Qualification Requirements

Education:

M.A. in Linguistics, applied Linguistics, and/or foreign language education.

Experience

Teaching Chinese as an instructor at the college level, as well as interest in upper-level instruction in translation.

Other

Must be able to teach Chinese language at the introductory level and possess native or near-native fluency in Chinese with an excellent command of English. This course may be co-taught.

Course: EAST 330 Second Level Chinese (4.5 credits) – D2 - section 001

Teaching Schedule: MTWRF 8:35-9:25

Course Starts and End Dates: January 5 to April 14, 2026

Location: SH680 rm 294

Course Details

Asian Language & Literature : The same communicative approach as in EAST 230 is used to develop aural and oral skills on daily topics. In addition to textbooks, Chinese films on videotapes will be incorporated as teaching materials.

This is a 4.5 credit course. It is the Winter 2026 section of a 9 credit course. The position is only for the second half (Winter academic term) of the full year course.

Salary: $17,218.50

Position Summary:

b) delivery of the Course;
c) evaluation of students;
d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades;
e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;
f) upon request, review of their students’ grades;

EAST 368 001 Asian Genre Cinemas (3 credits)

Teaching Schedule: Tuesday, 1:35 pm - 5:25 pm

Start and end date of course: January 5, 2026 to April 14, 2026

Salary: $11,479

Course details: Asian Language & Literature: This course explores the historical and aesthetic dimensions of Asian genre cinemas in a regional framework, in relation to varied social and cultural phenomena. Genres explored include the gangster film, martial arts action, horror, revenge, melodrama, period drama, and documentary.

Teaching Qualification Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: All But Dissertation (ABD), or equivalent, in Asian Studies.

Experience: Applicants should have substantial experience teaching as an instructor at the university level.

Position Summary:
