Pride season fills me with nostalgia from听joyous memories with friends as well as听an indescribable sadness. Several years ago, a good friend of mine committed suicide. Despite being in a very loving long-term relationship and adored by his friends, he expressed being unable to听shake a feeling of not belonging. I vividly remember a conversation during which he expressed the internal distress he felt about being a gay man,听fuelled by judgment from society and his culture. I wish I could have understood then the depth of his suffering.

The Centre for Research on Children and Families (CRCF) was bequeathed a generous donation from Mr. Manuel Batshaw, a Canadian social worker who is best known for being the founder of Batshaw Youth and Family Centres (now part of the CIUSSS Ouest-de-l鈥櫭巐e-de-Montr茅al). Using this donation, the CRCF has created the Aging Out of Care Scholarship in recognition of Mr. Batshaw鈥檚 life鈥檚 work and his specific interest in assisting children aging out of care.
