Ms. Kloda has been awarded the Doctoral Award for Research and Professional Excellence, 2009, from the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Education Graduate Students’ Society; the World Book Graduate Scholarship in Library and Information Science, 2009-2010, from the Canadian Library Association; a Doctoral Fellowship, 2008, from the Thomson Scientific/Medical Library Association (MLA); and a Bourse de doctorat en recherche, 2007-2010, from the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC).

Title of Talk: Qualitative methodology in information behaviour research

Since the 1980s, researchers have increasingly taken qualitative approaches to study information behaviour. This presentation will provide an overview of the causes and consequences of the shift from quantitative to qualitative approaches in information behaviour research. Kloda will illustrate the reasons for the shift, as well as some of the consequences, by referring to her own decision to take a purely qualitative approach in her dissertation research.
