Building a Socially Relevant and Responsible AI Curriculum for Secondary Girls

This research addresses two problems: the underrepresentation of women and girls in computing and the emerging need for ethical AI education. Pulling on methods from the fields of human-computer interaction and education, I will be working with a group of undergraduate women to build an AI curriculum that engages girls through their own interests while remaining rooted in socially responsibility. The undergraduates will then facilitate the curriculum in after-school coding clubs with secondary girls. This research will help us better understand how to engage girls in AI education and how to teach responsible AI.

Emotion Recognition Integration in AI-Digital Nurse Avatar for Enhanced Senior Care

ADiNA is an AI-Digital Nurse Avatar who interacts with older adults through speech for medical scenario information. My research is to give it the ability to detect the emotions of the seniors in real time, thus optimizing response mechanisms. My goal is to improve the quality of care for seniors while offering meaningful support to nurses in Quebec and Canada, helping alleviate their workload, and contributing to the development of innovative AI-based caregiving solutions.

Care Trajectories of Older Adults with Cardiovascular Disease and Dementia

Many older adults live with both cardiovascular disease and dementia, which makes their care more complex. The first part of my project uses a large health care administrative dataset and advanced analytical methods, such as machine learning, to identify and predict patterns in how these patients use health services. The second part involves interviewing patients and caregivers to understand their personal experiences and challenges. Ultimately, my project aims to support better, more patient-centered care for this vulnerable population.
