Cathcart Chair in Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow

Professor Kostas Tokatlidis has spent 20 years researching mitochondria biogenesis and how it underpins human diseases such as neurodegeneration, cancer and diabetes and has made significant contributions to the field. Mitochondria are vital organelles controlling metabolism, growth, and cell death in essentially all organisms including humans. Kostas has broad international research experience with previous posts at the Institut Pasteur-Paris, the Biozentrum-Basel, and the Universities of Crete, Manchester and Delaware. He currently holds the Cathcart Chair of Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow, is a Royal Society-Wolfson research fellow, and member of the Lister Institute and The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).
