10 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Web Services articles that ate in 2025

Of the many articles we published this year, these 10 just hit different. See what topped the charts, driven by user traffic and impact.

  1. How to create user-friendly web content (that's AI-friendly, too!)

Generative AI has changed how people find and consume our content. Luckily, many actions that make web content better for people also make it easier for robots to parse. This article walks through how to help every visitor—be it Luke Skywalker or C-3PO—find information effortlessly. My hot take? Start by removing duplicate content, which we covered in another recent article: Why duplicating content is double the trouble.

  2. Research site template now available

Fresh off its world premiere, our research site template already has more buzz than Wicked 2 (in some circles). If you or someone you know wants to create or redesign a website for their 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ research lab, this article spills the tea on our new template and content entry support services. We're hoping this will bring even more sites into the WMS, because the costs and responsibilities associated with custom websites built on external platforms are not the vibe.

  3. Accessible images make alt the difference

Alt text makes images speak to everyone, including people with vision impairment. Learn how to make every word count with our recently published guide to writing great alt text. And while you're at it, why not check out our article on why descriptive link text is the GOAT for people navigating our websites with a screen reader?

  4. What's SUP?! Conversations with our 2024/25 Student Usability Panel

We're now on Season 2 of our Student Usability Panel, and let me just say—it slaps. This killer cast of students from across 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ's student body is helping us evaluate and improve 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ’s digital spaces big time. We have some new faces and projects this semester, but this article showcases some of the exciting projects they've completed so far. If this inspires you to do your own user research, check out the UX at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ training course we also revamped this year! Still not convinced? I challenge you to read Why user data beats assumptions every time!

  5. Our guide to image gallery excellence

This article breaking down the new ways to showcase images in the new WMS really popped off earlier this year. And it's the perfect time to blow off the dust, because the needle's about to drop on Phase 5 of the migration, which includes sites with image galleries!

Check if you're up next by using the migration status report page (requires a VPN if you're off campus).

  6. Clearing the way forward: Archiving and deleting sites in the WMS

The WMS needs a major closet clean-out and, as we migrate, we're ditching the sites that don't spark joy (read: are no longer relevant, like that dusty site about a 2014 conference).

The migration is picking up steam and we're about to launch a new automated notification system, so anyone with a site flagged for potential deletion will be hearing from us soon! But don't worry, nothing will be yeeted into the void: we're archiving everything in a publically accessible online format. Learn how to access your site archive in another article we published this year.

  7. It's all in the details (feature)

The new WMS has a stacked lineup of exciting new features and our article on one of my personal faves, Details, just got updated with a handy little AI prompt to help you convert your old accordions post-migration. But that's not all folks—don't sleep on the updated drop-down menu or the ability change the size of your headings without skipping levels (get a complete look at our new drip in the "What you see is what you get!" guide to the new WMS).

  8. Goodbye eCalendar, hello Course Catalogue

After retiring the eCalendar (rip), 2025 was the year we entered our Course Catalogue era. More than just a glow-up, this overhaul was informed by hundreds of 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ students and staff members. Read about how you helped build the new Course Catalogue in another article from this year.

  9. Give your webforms a signature 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ style

By now we all know MS Forms are the new black. But they don't have to literally be black—make it ✨fashion✨ with our custom-branded 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ backgrounds! Want more help transitioning your webforms? Read Making the move to MS Forms.

  10. Search me!

The recent upgrade to 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ's search tool is already delivering better results, more frequent updates, and less downtime (and yes, just like Slim Shady, the site filter is back, back again). Besides the WMS migration, this was one of three major initiatives that kept our IT Web Services Group busy this year (the other two being the new course catalogue and important work to address the network security issues affecting the WMS).
