Legal Status Fee Deferral

Understanding Fee Deferrals for Residency Status

The University assesses your admission details to determine whether you qualify for the Quebec and Canadian (out-of-province) tuition rates. If you're eligible for a fee deferral based on this review, it will be applied to your student account before your first bill is issued.

What Is a Legal Status Fee Deferral?

A fee deferral may be granted when there's a delay in submitting the legal documents required to confirm your residency status—or if your documents have been submitted and are currently being processed. The deferred amount represents the portion of tuition fees that would be adjusted based on your expected fee residency status, and is temporarily removed from your current balance.

Submitting Legal Documents

To confirm your residency status, you must submit supporting legal documents to Enrolment Services – Legal Documentation. For full details on what to submit and how, visit Legal Documents
Please note: Tuition rates will only be updated once your documents are submitted and processed.

How the Deferral Appears in Your Account

Where Student Accounts has determined from your admissions information that you may qualify for the Canadian or Quebec fee rate, we will automatically grant you a fee deferral.

Approved fee deferrals appear as an anticipated (pre-authorized) credit on your Minerva account. Navigate to: Minerva > Student > Student Accounts > Account Summary by Term, and look for a line beginning with: "Deferred Amt - " (see the example below). This deferred amount is subtracted from your current balance and is not subject to interest.

When to Submit a Request

Student Accounts sends a confirmation email when your deferral has been processed. If you have not received this email or you believe you may qualify for a change of your legal status,  you may request a Legal Status Fee Deferral using the form below.
