 ec à Montréal. Having always wanted to work with racialized youth\, she de
 cided to do her first undergraduate degree in psychology. Quickly realizin
 g that racialized and marginalized communities were not accessing psycholo
 gical services\, she used her studies in psychology to prepare for her adm
 ission to the 9I��������� Special BSW program and has now been a frontline soci
 al worker for nearly 15 years.\n\nSyndie’s lecture entitled “Existing Outs
 ide the Norm: Critical Approaches to Family Therapy” will explore how our 
 history of colonialism has established and maintained Whiteness as the nor
 mative experience and how this socially constructed standard is systemical
 ly embedded in couple and family therapy training. It will also discuss ho
 w including critical approaches and emphasizing the need for critical cons
 ciousness in family therapy are necessary steps towards making a real atte
