 be introduced to the basics of programming in Python. Students will journe
 y from the beginnings of creating variables and performing simple mathemat
 ical operations to writing code that can perform fundamental tasks and wra
 pping this code into functions. Participants will learn how to write the i
 mportant building blocks that make up complex programs.https://forms.offic

 to:Store data in variables and collections.Perform basic operations on the
 se data.Use control flow and loops to write powerful code.Define functions
  to create repeatable units of behaviour. Pre-requisites:Basic computer sc
 ience knowledge is strongly recommended. Attendees should be comfortable w
 ith the following terms: memory\, CPU\, variable\, control flow\, loop\, l
 ist\, collection. Some of these concepts will be briefly defined\, but pri
 or knowledge is an asset. No prior programming experience is required to a
 ttend this workshop (although familiarity with another language may be hel
 pful). To fully participate in the exercises in this workshop\, attendees 
 should have a working Python installation and either Jupyter Lab or anothe
 r IDE that can open Jupyter notebooks\, such as Microsoft Visual Studio Co
 de. Alternatively\, examples can be run in Google Colab online (requires a
  Google account). A document will be circulated to help participants insta
 ll Python and set up the environment. **IMPORTANT NOTICE: Attendance for g
 raduate students and postdoctoral fellows is subsidized by Graduate and Po
 stdoctoral Studies. All other attendees such as undergraduate students and
  interns are required to purchase a ticket to cover organizational and sta
