DESCRIPTION:The Research Network on Women\, Peace and Security (RN-WPS) is 
 organizing a series of panel events on emerging issues in researching Wome
 n\, Peace and Security\, for the 2022-2023 academic year. The second event
  in this series will focus on the experiences of women of colour (WOC) who
  are active in the WPS field - as both academic and practitioners.\n\nRegi
 ster!\n\nThis event will share information on how to:\n\n- build a career 
 in WPS as a woman of Color\, focusing on both challenges and opportunities
 \;\n\n- Highlight the presence and works of women of Color in WPS\;\n\n- a
 nd discuss the unique social locations as women of Color practitioners and
  researchers working within our own and/or other communities of Color.\n\n
 Speakers:\n\nDr. Siham Rayale: Dr. Siham Rayale (PhD) has over a decade of
  experience working on and developing global policy and programming that p
 romotes women’s political and economic empowerment. Siham’s research and a
 dvocacy has focused on issues relating to women\, peace and security with 
 an emphasis on legal reform in conflict and post-conflict contexts. Siham 
 has extensive experience working in complex humanitarian environments and 
 leading research that promotes feminist social transformation and foreign 
 policy. Siham has worked in the non-profit sector and academia where she t
 aught courses focusing on development theory and praxis. She has a Masters
  in Development from York University\, an LLM from Osgoode Hall at York Un
 iversity\, and a PhD from SOAS.\n\n \n\nDr. Nafisa Abdulhamid: Nafisa Abdu
 lhamid\, PhD is a Gender and Learning Officer at Global Affairs Canada. Na
 fisa has a doctorate in Political Science from Dalhousie University where 
 she focused on civilian protection in armed conflict in Somalia. Nafisa is
  also a postdoctoral researcher at Wilfrid Laurier University and a Resear
 ch Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Security and Development (CSSD).
 \n\n \n\nMary Pierre Wade: Mary Pierre Wade is a Foreign Service Officer a
 t Global Affairs Canada and the Chief of Staff to the Ambassador for Women
 \, Peace\, and Security. She has worked on international security and huma
 n rights for most of her career at GAC\, and she is dedicated to promoting
  an inclusive approach to security. She has served on Canada's delegations
  to NATO in Brussels (where she was lead on WPS)\, and to the UN Human Rig
 hts Council in Geneva (where she co-chaired the HRC resolution on Violence
  Against Women). She holds a Master of International Studies and Diplomacy
  from the School of Oriental and African Studies\, University of London (U
 K). She was born in Japan and grew up on the traditional\, unceded lands o
 f the Semiahmoo First Nations People\, in the beautiful lower mainland of 
 BC. She also serves as a member of the Board for Women In International Se
 curity Canada.\n\nWith opening remarks from Panthea Pourmalek (UBC and RN
 -WPS Youth Advisory Board)\, this event will be moderated by Isabelle Aung
  (Queen's University and RN-WPS PhD student) and Samantha El-Ghazal (UBC a
 nd RN-WPS Youth Advisory Board).\n
