National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Friday, December 5, 2025 12:00to12:30

On Dec. 6, 1989, 14 women were killed at École Polytechnique. They were killed because they were women, because most were students in an engineering program. What has come to be called the Montreal Massacre is an event we are all called upon to remember: violence against women continues to be part of our present.

According to the UN, globally, a woman was killed every 10 minutes in 2023.

On the 36th anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre, and the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (White Ribbon Day), we invite you to join us in a commemoration of the 14 young women.

When: Friday, December 5, 2025, 12:00 – 12:30 pm, followed by a community solace reception
Where: McTavish Street, across from Brown Building, in front of the plaque and tree dedicated in memory
