 \nLiisa Myllykangas works as an associate professor of neuropathology and 
 chief consultant at the University of Helsinki and Helsinki University Hos
 pital. Her research focuses on neuropathology and genetics of neurodegener
 ative disorders.\n\nDr. Myllykangas carried out her M.D. and Ph.D. studies
  and neuropathology residency at the University of Helsinki\, where she wa
 s supervised by Drs. Matti Haltia\, Pentti Tienari and Anders Paetau. As p
 art of her PhD\, focused on the population-based Vantaa 85+ study\, she wo
 rked for a year in Dr. John Hardy’s laboratory at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville
 . Dr. Myllykangas carried out postdoctoral training on Drosophila models o
 f neurodegeneration at Harvard Medical School with Dr. Mel Feany\, after w
 hich she established an own group at the University of Helsinki.\n\nDr. My
 llykangas’s research portfolio comprises of neuropathological\, genetic an
 d experimental studies on various neurological diseases. The aim of her re
 search group is to characterize histopathological brain changes commonly f
 ound in the oldest old population and to understand the connection between
  genetic variation and neuropathological changes in sporadic and familial 
 forms of neurodegenerations. Currently\, her group is particularly interes
 ted in novel forms of common dementia disorders.\n
