Lindquist presents: Emotions are constructed of more basic networks\n\nRegistration available here.\n\nSpeaker: Kristen A. Lin dquist\, PhD\n\nAssociate Professor\, Department of Psychology and Neurosc ience\, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\, USA\n\nAbstract: It has long been assumed that certain “basic” emotions emerge from anatomical ly ingrained circuits. Yet growing research suggests that emotions emerge from more basic networks that comprise the brain’s basic functional archit ecture. In this talk\, I’ll discuss evidence that human emotional experien ces are associated with the co-activation of broadscale networks subservin g psychological functions that are not specific to emotion.\n\nBio: Kriste n Lindquist\, Ph.D.\, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psych ology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina\, Chapel Hill w here she is a faculty member in the Social Psychology graduate program\, t he Developmental Psychology graduate program\, and a member of the Human N euroimaging Group. She is also faculty at the Biomedical Research Imaging Center and the Neurobiology Curriculum in the School of Medicine. She dire cts the Carolina Affective Science Lab\, a group of interdisciplinary scie ntists who use the tools of social cognition\, physiology\, and neuroscien ce to understand how people experience emotions in their own bodies\, see them in others\, and how these processes contribute to social behavior\, w ell-being\, and health across the lifespan.\n\nKristen received her B.A. i n Psychology and English from Boston College in 2004\, her Ph.D. in Psycho logy from Boston College in 2010\, and she was a Harvard University Mind/B rain/Behavior Initiative postdoctoral fellow from 2010-2012\, during which she was affiliated with the Department of Psychology at Harvard Universit y\, the Department of Neurology at Harvard Medical School\, and the Martin os Center for Biomedical Imaging at the Massachusetts General Hospital.\n \n\nThe Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind (VBM) Seminar Series will advance t he vision of Dr. William Feindel (1918–2014)\, Former Director of the Neur o (1972–1984)\, to constantly bridge the clinical and research realms. The talks will highlight the latest advances and discoveries in neuropsycholo gy\, cognitive neuroscience\, and neuroimaging.\n\nSpeakers will include s cientists from across The Neuro\, as well as colleagues and collaborators locally and from around the world. The series is intended to provide a vir tual forum for scientists and trainees to continue to foster interdiscipli nary exchanges on the mechanisms\, diagnosis and treatment of brain and co gnitive disorders.\n DTSTART:20220209T210000Z DTEND:20220209T220000Z SUMMARY:Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind Lecture Series: Emotions are constru cted of more basic networks URL:/neuro/channels/event/feindel-virtual-brain-and-mi nd-lecture-series-emotions-are-constructed-more-basic-networks-337110 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
