In this talk\, I will give an overview of our recent work tackling this fundamental question. Using a combinatio n of high temporal resolution (e.g.\, MEG) and high spatial resolution (e. g.\, 7T fMRI) techniques to record from the human brain\, and employing mu ltiple perceptual paradigms\, we have found that: 1) Conscious perception likely requires the coordination of large-scale brain dynamics across mult iple brain networks. 2) The preexisting brain state\, embodied in the conn ectivity patterns reflecting past experiences and the moment-to-moment spo ntaneous activity fluctuations\, strongly shapes conscious perception.\n\n Bio: Biyu Jade He received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Washington Unive rsity in St. Louis. Prior to joining NYU\, she led her own independent res earch group in the intramural research program of the NIH/NINDS\, with an intramural equivalent of the NIH Director’s Early Independence Award. Her laboratory uses a combination of invasive and non-invasive multimodal huma n brain imaging\, brain stimulation\, and computational approaches to inve stigate the neural mechanisms of perceptual processing in the human brain. She has also made original contributions to understanding the organizatio n\, mechanisms and functional roles of spontaneous brain activity and aper iodic brain activity. She has received a Society for Neuroscience Trubatch Career Development Award\, an NSF CAREER Award\, a Klingenstein-Simons Fe llowship Award\, and an Irma Hirschl Career Scientist Award among other aw ards.\n\n\nThe Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind (VBM) Seminar Series will ad vance the vision of Dr. William Feindel (1918–2014)\, Former Director of t he Neuro (1972–1984)\, to constantly bridge the clinical and research real ms. The talks will highlight the latest advances and discoveries in neurop sychology\, cognitive neuroscience\, and neuroimaging.\n\nSpeakers will in clude scientists from across The Neuro\, as well as colleagues and collabo rators locally and from around the world. The series is intended to provid e a virtual forum for scientists and trainees to continue to foster interd isciplinary exchanges on the mechanisms\, diagnosis and treatment of brain and cognitive disorders.\n DTSTART:20210421T200000Z DTEND:20210421T210000Z SUMMARY:Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind Lecture Series: Neural mechanisms of conscious visual perception URL:/neuro/channels/event/feindel-virtual-brain-and-mi nd-lecture-series-neural-mechanisms-conscious-visual-perception-330311 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
