DESCRIPTION:Doctoral Colloquium: Erivan Duarte (PhD candidate\, Interdiscip
 linary Studies) \n\nTitle: “Music-Making Beyond Hearing: Deaf Perspectives
  in the Co-Design of Inclusive Musical Technologies”\n\nThis project inves
 tigates music-making within the Deaf community and explores how collaborat
 ive design processes can inform more inclusive musical technologies. Groun
 ded in participatory fieldwork\, it situates Deaf musicians’ experiences a
 t the intersection of sensory access\, technology\, and cultural identity.
  The research follows a three-phase methodology: (1) a survey identifying 
 barriers and needs in music-making and existing technologies\; (2) partici
 patory workshops where Deaf musicians conceptualized non-functional instru
 ment prototypes\; and (3) the development and evaluation of functional Acc
 essible Digital Musical Instruments (ADMIs). This presentation focuses on 
 the first two phases\, highlighting two emergent themes: (1) distinctive p
 atterns of music engagement within the Deaf community\, and (2) the influe
 nce of Deaf cultural identity on music engagement and technology design. B
 y centering Deaf perspectives\, the study deepens understanding of how mus
 ic is created and experienced beyond hearing\, showing how Deaf approaches
  can inspire inclusive and culturally grounded forms of music-making and t
 echnology.\n\nErivan Duarte is a musician\, composer\, and PhD candidate i
 n Music at 9I���������. His work bridges artistic creation\, accessi
 bility\, and community engagement. Through participatory research with Dea
 f and disabled people\, he explores how music\, technology\, and shared cr
 eative processes can foster inclusion and new forms of creative practice.
