Various kinds of geometric repr esentations have been applied to music: low-dimensional spatial representa tions\, (sub)groups and group transformations\, and Quinn’s balance pan re presentation of Lewin’s Fourier properties. Results will be presented in w hich these geometric representational are applied to tonal and rhythmic hi erarchies\, key distances\, and harmonic expectations.\n\nBiography\n\nCar ol Lynne Krumhansl is Professor of Psychology at Cornell University. The M usic Cognition Laboratory\, founded in 1980\, has studied a wide range of topics.  The experiments on tonality helped establish the psychological re ality of music-theoretic concepts. Contemporary proposals on melodic struc ture and musical tension have been tested and extended to music from other cultures and post-tonal music. Recent research has used popular music to study memory representations and associated autobiographical memories. A l ong-standing interest is the application of mathematical models to represe nt patterns in music.\n DTSTART:20221107T220000Z DTEND:20221107T230000Z LOCATION:Tanna Schulich Hall \, Elizabeth Wirth Music Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1E3\, 527 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:CIRMMT Distinguished Lecture | Geometries of pitch and time in musi c URL:/music/channels/event/cirmmt-distinguished-lecture -geometries-pitch-and-time-music-341496 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
