In this intensive course/workshop\, we explain the mai n topics in integrating multiple sensors in larger systems and demonstrate them in the lab\, on a board with tri-axial inertial MEMS sensors and oth er devices. \n\nInstructor:\n\nDr. Zeljko Zilic is an associate professor at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ. He has obtained his Ph. D. degree from University of Toronto in 1997. He worked at Lucent Technologies in 1997-98. He has taug ht courses on microprocessor and embedded systems since joining 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ in 1998 and in that period he has designed novel laboratory kits and courses that extend the focus to wireless embedded systems and multi-sensor integr ation. For his teaching efforts\, he has received the Wighton Fellowship b y the National Council of Deans of Engineering and Applied Sciences of Can ada.  He has written a dozen of papers on embedded systems education\, inc luding embedded wireless and multi-sensor training. He is also a prolific researcher\, with over 200 research papers in the related areas\, for whic h he has received several research awards. Dr. Zilic has also co-written t hree books that have served both as research monographs and course textboo ks in graduate courses. In the research community\, Dr. Zilic has served a s a general and program chair of IEEE High-level Design Validation and tes t and has chaired several other conferences in matters of finance\, tutori als\, panels and special sessions.   \n\nWorkshop Content:\n\nStudents are expected to take the self-preparation assessment quiz and complete the ne cessary pre-readings before the workshop.\n\n\n Embedded microprocessor-bas ed systems basics\n o Embedded systems and processor architecture\n o Design principles\n Modern embedded processors suitable for sensor integration\n o  Design tools and debug support significance\n o ARM Cortex M3 and M4 proce ssor case studies\n o Low-power design concerns\n o Lab/Demo: Tools for embe dded ARM design\n Interfacing sensors  from software\n o Lab 1: Program desi gn and debugging tools\n Basics of sensor integration\n o Dealing with manuf acturing imprecision and correcting capabilities\n o Compensating temperatu re and environmental impact\n o Noise in measurements and its reduction\n \n Frequency-domain technique basics\n \n \n Interfacing sensors with digital bu s interfaces\n o Buses for interfacing sensors: I2C\, SPI\, …\n o Lab 2: ana log sensor sampling\, signal conditioning and processing\n Sensor data filt ering and signal processing\n o Digital and software filters\n Interrupt-dri ven interfacing\n o Asynchrony in sensor data processing – interrupt-driven processing\n o Lab 3: Reading and processing of accelerometer data\; inter rupts\n System-level interfacing of multiple sensors at different rates\n o  OS Services\n o OS Abstraction layer and multithreaded processing\n o Lab 4: Sensor data processing in independent threads\n\n\nLocation\n\n8/Dec/2015 : Morning: #2120 Trottier\; Afternoon: #4160 Trottier Building\n\n9/Dec/20 15: Morning: FDA #5\; Afternoon #4160 Trottier Building\n\nRegistration De tails:\n\nRegistration closing date: Dec 4\, 2015.  To register\, click he re.\n\nWhile priority will be given to ISS students who must take the work shop this year according to their plans\, other spaces will be given first come first served.\n\nExtra students may be added to the waitlist\, and w ill be informed of an available space by email\, by Dec 4\, 2015 at the la test.   To confirm their space\, waitlisted students must follow the instr uctions provided.\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Cancellations requests must be made by 5 :00 p.m.\, Dec 4\, 2015 for reimbursement (unless a medical note is provid ed).
