The cell cycle can also act as a transcriptional filter to control the expression of long gene transcripts\, which are partially transcribed in short cycles. Using mathematical simulations of cell prolif eration\, we identify an emergent property that this filter can act as a t uning knob to control gene transcript expression\, cell diversity\, and th e number and proportion of different cell types in a tissue. Our predictio ns are supported by comparison to single-cell RNA-seq data captured over e mbryonic development. Additionally\, evolutionary genome analysis shows th at fast-developing organisms have a narrow genomic distribution of gene le ngths while slower developers have an expanded number of long genes. Our r esults support the idea that cell cycle dynamics may be important across m ulticellular animals for controlling gene transcript expression and cell f ate.\n\n \n\nSéminaire CAMBAM Seminar Series\n En ligne/Web - https://mcgil l.zoom.us/j/85428056343\n DTSTART:20220125T170000Z DTEND:20220125T180000Z SUMMARY:Gary Bader\, University of Toronto URL:/mathstat/channels/event/gary-bader-university-tor onto-336445 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
