Gelfand from Duke University and Professor Jenn ifer Hill from New York University. This year\ , we also invite undergraduate students in statistics to showcase their wo rk in a poster competition. Conveying your research being key to the learn ing process\, we encourage each of you to consider submitting an abstract for a talk (graduate students) or a poster (undergraduates). We believe th at the undergraduate poster competition is a great opportunity to particip ate in an academic conference and that it will be very beneficial to them to practice their presentation skills at an early stage of their career. If you plan on submitting an abstract\, you do not have to c omplete the registration form. However\, you must fill in the abstract sub mission form (https://sites.google.com/view/biostatresearchday-2021/submit ) before Wednesday\, September 8th 2021\, 23:59 EDT to confirm your partic ipation to the competition.\n\nOnce you have submitted an abstract for you r poster\, we will send you an email to ask you to submit your poster for the competition\, by replying to the email. The deadline to submit your poster will be on Friday\, September 1 7th 2021\, 23:59 EDT\, a week prior the event.\n\nOn the event day\, you w ill give a short presentation about your poster to share your research. Th is presentation should not be longer than 5 minutes and should be rehearse d in order to navigate your poster smoothly over Zoom. A presentation that has reached 5 minutes will be cut.\n\nFAQ\n\nQ: What kind of research are you expecting me to present? I feel like my work is too naive/simple to g ive a talk.\n\nA: Any research is welcome. It could be work from your summ er SURA / NSERC USRA / ISM research\, or it could be work from a research/ project course such as MATH 396 / 410 / 470.\n\n聽\n\nQ: How long should th e presentation take?\n\nA: The participants should have their posters read y such that they can present their work in no more than 5 minutes. A prese ntation that has reached 5 minutes will be cut.\n\n聽\n\nQ: Can I ask for h elp in reviewing my poster / help me practice my presentation?\n\nA: Yes\, you can get any help you find necessary. However\, keep in mind that your poster and presentation must be about your own research.\n\n聽\n\nQ: My re search project was done as a team. Could we register for the competition a s a team?\n\nA: Yes. You are allowed to register for this competition as a team. However\, you must register under your teams鈥 leader name with 鈥(te am)鈥 next to their name. We will email you to ask for all your team member s鈥 names and emails. The presentation may be given by one member only or t he full team. However\, keep in mind that for the presentation\, only 5 mi nutes will be allowed anyway. Rehearse accordingly.\n\n聽\n\nQ: Are there a ny fees required to participate in this competition?\n\nA: No\, the compet ition is free.\n\n\n 聽\n\n We expect your poster to contain a title\, your n ame (or the names of all members of your team) and your affiliation. We re commend that you include the following information: the objectives of your study\, the methods you use\, some results and a discussion of the streng ths and limitations of your study. Recall a poster is a visual summary of your study: use figures and tables! \n\n 聽\n\n We do not have any preference for the size of your poster. However\, do not forget that you will have t o navigate your poster while presenting it over Zoom in your 5 minutes tal k. We suggest you adjust the size of your poster accordingly!
