Indeed most of the processes that characterize energy flow occur far from equili brium. These range from very large systems\, such as weather patterns or o cean currents that remain far from equilibrium owing to an influx of energ y\, to biological structures. Away-from-equilibrium processes occur on tim e scales ranging from nanoseconds to millennia. Despite the pervasiveness of non-equilibrium systems and processes\, our current understanding is fa r from complete. The macroscopic fluctuation theory deals with diffusive s ystems for which provides natural non-equilibrium thermodynamic functional s whose singularities are associated with phase transitions. It is based o n a single formula for the probability of joint fluctuations of thermodyna mic variables and currents and its properties under time reversal. It has been tested in models exactly solvable. These lectures will cover some gen eral principles\, predictions and applications\, in particular phase trans itions typical of non-equilibrium and thermodynamic transformations betwee n stationary states.\n DTSTART:20180928T200000Z DTEND:20180928T210000Z LOCATION:Room 1360\, CA\, Pav.
