Internship information for students

The McEwen Family Internship Program offers all undergraduate students at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ's Macdonald Campus a flexible opportunity to complete an internship relevant to their studies, at any point in their degree.

We offer guidance on which internships to pursue, funding for related costs, and assistance with paperwork and applications, so that you can gain invaluable inspiration and hands-on experience.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this internship program, you must:Ìý

  • Be aÌýfull-timeÌýundergraduate student in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
  • Have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) ofÌý2.7Ìýor higher
  • Find an internship that isÌý°ù±ð±ô±ð±¹²¹²Ô³ÙÌýto your field of academic study, with aÌýminimum duration of 10 weeks at 35 hours/week or equivalent

Academic credit

Once you secure an internship, you must register for an internship course: either / or /.

FAES 200/201 is a no credit course, which means at the end of your internship you will receive a pass/fail grade.

FAES 300/301 is a credited course (3 credits) and upon completion of your internship you will receive a final grade on your transcript.

Internship awards

The McEwen Family Internship Program offers several internship awards for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, established through the generous support of donors.

To be eligible for these awards, you must hold a summer internship through theÌýMcEwen Family Internship Program.

Exact values of each award vary annually and depend on the student's financial needs.

We automatically consider applicants for all the awards listed below upon submission of the following online form.

List of available awards

  • Alton and Dianne McEwen and Family Internship Awards (approximately $500–$2000)
  • Brown-Martlet Entrepreneurial Awards (approximately $500–$1500):ÌýStudent placements should have an exclusive focus on entrepreneurship and innovation: creation, development, and management of a business venture, which includes undertaking all the necessary risks in order to make the venture profitable and the return gainful. This can include social entrepreneurship, an approach that applies business principles to deliver solutions to issues facing society and benefit the greater good.
  • Class of '65 Internship AwardÌý(approximately $500–$1500)
  • Class of '66 Entrepreneurship and Innovation Internship Award (approximately $500–$1500):ÌýPreference will be given to students working in industries and companies that are entrepreneurial or innovative.
  • Harold Blenkhorn Internship Award (approximately $500–$1500): Preference will be given to students in Plant Science.
  • Iwanicki International Internship Awards (approximately $500–$1000): Provides partial funding to assist with travel and expenses associated with an international internship. Preference will be given to students in Dietetics and Human Nutrition.
  • Robert S. Broughton Student Internship in Agricultural Engineering (approximately $1000–$2500): Preference will be given to students in Bioresource Engineering.
