The supply chains of transnational corporations cross oceans and borders\, shunting immense amounts of resources around the globe. These supply chains are the lifeblood of the global economy\, but they often cause negative environme ntal change and social dislocation where they touch down. Bringing transpa rency to corporate supply chains can motivate companies to improve their p roduction practices\, source more sustainability\, and reduce reputational risk. However\, supply chains are notoriously opaque. This means corporat ions lack critical information to produce sustainably and consumers lack i nformation to consume more ethically.\n\nThis talk provides an overview of the state of the art of methods to track supply chains and link them to s ocial and environmental harms. Through examples from the forestry and agri cultural sectors\, I show how academics are contributing to broader moveme nts to hold corporations accountable for unsustainable business practices. Enhanced transparency can help the large corporations that move and shape the global economy become more sustainable\, aiding them in becoming cata lysts for broader sectoral change.\n\nFree Hybrid Event\n\nFeatured speake r:\n\nDr. Benjamin Goldstein\n\nBenjamin Goldstein is an assistant profess or of Bioresource Engineering. He is the lead research at the Lab for Sust ainable Urban-Rural Futures (SURF Lab). The SURF Lab develops methods to m easure and map the environmental impacts of cities both inside and outside cities. Research interests include urban food systems\, urban resource co nsumption\, and the corporate supply chains that underpin modern urban lif e.\n\nRegister\n\n*This seminar will be accessible via zoom- Link provided once registered \n  \n DTSTART:20230222T170000Z DTEND:20230222T170000Z LOCATION:Room 267\, Macdonald Engineering Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H 3A 0C3\, 817 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:TISED Talks presents Tracking Corporate Actors Across Space and Tim e URL:/macdonald/channels/event/tised-talks-presents-tra cking-corporate-actors-across-space-and-time-345989 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
