This semina r will be held on Zoom (https://mcgill.zoom.us/j/785668650).\n\nSummary: S ince Joshua Lederberg’s Nobel Laureate recognition nearly 20 years ago\, w e’ve seen an explosion in microbiome research. Today\, it’ s clear that th e microbiome has great influence on human health and disease. Join us to e xplore this fascinating pseudo-organ\, its role in inflammatory processes\ , and how we might leverage microorganisms in development of new models an d therapies. Using a model of inflammatory colitis\, Dr. Rana Samadfam wil l explain how gut microbiota affects the induction\, education and functio n of the immune system\, and share how live therapeutics can affect inflam matory cytokines\, dysbiosis\, and the immunologic response.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\nRana Samadfam received both an MSc and PhD in pharmacology from the Université de Sherbrooke. Following her postdoctoral training at McGi ll University\, Rana joined Charles River\, where she and her team focus o n inflammation\, immunology\, autoimmune\, IBD\, respiratory\, skin\, and joint diseases. She is the recipient of several scientific awards\, author of over 105 peer-reviewed publications\, and editor of a bone toxicology book. Her articles have appeared in Scientific American\, and her most rec ent peer-reviewed studies have been published in Journal of Bone and Miner al Research and Bone.
