Among the specialized metabolites\, alkaloids and terpenoids s how the highest structural and functional diversity and have a wide range of applications e.g. as pharmaceuticals\, biofuels\, and fragrances. They are often synthesized by unknown and complex\, multi-step pathways. Dr Sad re will present three success stories from her work that exemplify how “om ics”-based approaches advanced our understanding of the biosynthesis and m etabolic diversity of alkaloids in non-model plants and how “nature’s tool box” can be used for synthetic biology to produce high-value biomaterials in plants.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\nRadin Sadre obtained her Ph.D. from the RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Following independent research activit ies in collaboration with the agrochemical company Syngenta\, Dr. Sadre jo ined Michigan State University and the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Cent er. Her research focuses on discovery of plant specialized metabolic pathw ays\, including those of medicinal alkaloids and terpenoids\, and plant sy nthetic biology. She developed novel approaches to engineer production of high-value terpenoids in plant leaf lipid droplets\, recently published in the journal Nature Communications.\n DTSTART:20200203T150000Z DTEND:20200203T150000Z LOCATION:R2-046\, Raymond Building\, CA\, QC\, St Anne de Bellevue\, H9X 3V 9\, 21111 Lakeshore Road SUMMARY:From Pathway Discovery to Plant Synthetic Biology URL:/macdonald/channels/event/pathway-discovery-plant- synthetic-biology-316574 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
