Everyone is invited to attend.\n\nDespite their evolutiona ry differences\, protozoan and metazoan parasites share a common goal: to persist in their hosts. As such\, these pathogens have devised ways to sub vert host immune responses. The apicomplexan Toxoplasma gondii and the hel minth Trichuris suis have proven to be useful models to study these biolog ical processes. Our work with these organisms has demonstrated that the mo dulation of innate immune responses involves complex transcriptional\, tra nslational\, and posttranslational networks in part influenced by parasite -derived virulence factors. Our studies have unraveled regulatory mechanis ms that could help identify common pathways dysregulated during both infec tions and other diseased states such as autoimmune disorders\, and pave th e way to novel therapies.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\nLouis-Philippe Leroux ob tained his doctoral degree at the Institute of Parasitology under the supe rvision of Dr. Florence Dzierszinski. His thesis focused on the dysregulat ion of MHC-II antigen presentation by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma go ndii. He undertook his first postdoctoral training in Dr. Armando Jardim's laboratory. Leroux's work focused on the excreted-secreted molecules from Trichuris suis. He then joined Dr. Maritza Jaramillo's laboratory at the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier to study the role of translational control i n the host immune response during parasitic infections.\n DTSTART:20190508T153000Z DTEND:20190508T170000Z LOCATION:R2-046\, Raymond Building\, CA\, QC\, St Anne de Bellevue\, H9X 3V 9\, 21111 Lakeshore Road SUMMARY:Parasites and their secreted factors: exploiting regulatory mechani sms to shape the host immune response URL:/macdonald/channels/event/parasites-and-their-secr eted-factors-exploiting-regulatory-mechanisms-shape-host-immune-response-2 96947 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
