 rition\n\nPolyphenols have been indicated to exert protective effects agai
 nst a number of chronic diseases including cancer. The bioactivity of poly
 phenols depends on their bioaccessibility and bioavailability from the gas
 trointestinal (GI) tract after undergoing digestion and microbial biotrans
 formation processes followed by first pass intestinal and hepatic metaboli
 sm. Despite the functional significance of the polyphenols’ metabolites\, 
 there is a paucity of knowledge with regards to microbial biotransformatio
 n of polyphenols and the bioactivity of the generated metabolites. The pre
 sent work performed a series of studies involving the combination of a sim
 ulated gut digestion with cell culture systems for the investigation of th
 e biotransformation\, bioavailability and bioactivity of commonly consumed
  polyphenols including chlorogenic\, caffeic\, ferulic acids and rutin and
  their metabolites.\n\nEveryone in the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ community is welcome to atte
