The number one reason cows are culled is poor reproductive performanc e. This research aimed at better understanding the impact of metabolic cha nges occurring during the transition period (3 weeks pre-calving to 3 week s post-calving) on ovarian health and evaluating pathways required for ovu lation. We showed that the metabolic environment between lactating cows an d nulliparous heifers leading up to the estimated time of breeding is dras tically different\, which strengthens the current knowledge that lactating cows are less fertile than nulliparous heifers. We also investigated the impact of body condition (BC) loss during the transition period leading up to estimated time of breeding on multiparous cows.\n\nEveryone in the McG ill community is welcome to attend a PhD oral defence. Please join us in c elebrating the accomplishments of our PhD candidates.\n DTSTART:20181012T171500Z DTEND:20181012T171500Z LOCATION:MS2-022\, Macdonald-Stewart Building\, CA\, QC\, St Anne de Bellev ue\, H9X 3V9\, 21111 Lakeshore Road SUMMARY:PhD Oral Defence: Metabolic and ovarian functions of lactating dair y cows URL:/macdonald/channels/event/phd-oral-defence-metabol ic-and-ovarian-functions-lactating-dairy-cows-290353 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
