DESCRIPTION:Special seminar by Dr. Renée Bergeron\, Associate Professor and
  Director\, Alfred Campus\, University of Guelph.\nAll Staff and Students 
 are encouraged to attend.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER:\nDr. Bergeron received her
  BSc in Animal Science and her MSc in Animal Nutrition – both at Universit
 é Laval in 1989 and 1991\, respectively.  After completing her PhD in Anim
 al Behaviour at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) in 1995\, sh
 e was hired as an Assistant Professor (and later promoted to Associate Pro
 fessor) at Université Laval in their Department of Animal Science.  Her ma
 in areas of expertise focussed on animal welfare and behaviour\, and the e
 thics of animal use.\nIn 2007\, Dr. Bergeron moved to the University of Gu
 elph to become Director of the Alfred Campus.\nDr. Bergeron has served on 
 several provincial\, national and international committees involved with a
 nimal welfare including the Expert Committee on Farm Animal Welfare and Be
 haviour\, Standards Committees for animal care in pigs\, sheep\, and beef\
 , and the 5th International Conference on the Assessment of Animal Welfare
  at Farm and Group Level (2011).  She continues to serve as a member of th
 e Board of Trustees of the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada.\n\nDr. Ber
 geron is a candidate for the NSERC-Novalait-DFC Industry Research Chair in
  Sustainable Life of Dairy Cattle
