Rockefeller Professor of Politics\,\n University Center for Human Values at Princeton University)\n\nClimate Mig ration and Territorial Justice\n\nSince climate change compromises the car rying capacity of the earth\, it sharply raises the question of territoria l justice. How should the earth’s remaining habitable spaces be distribute d? This paper argues that we should conceive the aim of territorial justic e as that of constituting an equal status—that of common possessor of the globe. I argue that earth-dwellers will enjoy this status if three core te rritorial rights—to occupancy\, basic justice\, and self-determination—are recognized universally\, and the global distribution of territory is orga nized to ensure that these rights are robustly guaranteed for all. I apply this account to generate duties of territorial justice under conditions o f climate change: what do we owe people whose continued capacity to live i n their territories is under threat? I argue that those states historicall y responsible for climate change have duties of adaptation\, migration\, r edistribution\, and compensation towards groups whose territory’s carrying capacity is threatened or damaged.\n\nThis will be a hybrid event :\n In p erson at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ - Room: Arts 160\n Online by Zoom\n\nRegistration for both at lincentre [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Talk%20by%20Anna%20Stilz%20in%20pers on%20or%20online) \n DTSTART:20220311T180000Z DTEND:20220311T193000Z LOCATION:Hybrid event: In person room Art160\, Online registration\, Arts B uilding\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0G5\, 853 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:RGGJ talk by Anna Stilz URL:/lin-centre/channels/event/rggj-talk-anna-stilz-33 7854 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
