 \nJoin ROAAR in welcoming local artist Myriam Dion. In her own words: 'Han
 dmade\, dexterity\, craftsmanship\, ornamentation and pattern\; these word
 s arouse in me an insatiable fascination\, an irrepressible attraction\, g
 oing so far as to make me feel a certain tenderness at their evocation. It
  is also the cornerstone of my artistic practice\, through which I commit 
 to restore the dignity of traditional manual labor\, to recover the essenc
 e of the labor it involves and to praise artisanal virtuosity. At each new
  period of production\, this deep motivation lives in my daily life and en
 courages me to push back the material limits of the paper medium through t
 he delicacy and thoroughness that I incorporate into my works.\n\nIn recen
 t years\, I have started working with very old newspapers that I alter\, c
 ut up\, weaken and turn into works of art. By diverting the original funct
 ion of the object and making it unreadable\, I wonder about my way of inte
 rvening in these archives\, especially in a world where paper support is b
 ecoming increasingly scarce. Although it is a rather 'destructive' gesture
 \, the blade of my X-Acto ornaments and magnifies the journal. In this sen
 se\, I will address the various contrasts and tensions that emerge in my p
 ractice and that have advanced my research and my body of work since the e

 , allant jusqu’à me faire ressentir une sorte de tendresse à leur évocatio
 n. Il s’agit en outre de la pierre angulaire de ma pratique artistique\, p
 ar laquelle je m’engage à redonner sa dignité au travail manuel traditionn
 el\, à récupérer l’essence du labeur qu’il implique et à faire l’éloge de 
 la virtuosité artisanale. Cette profonde motivation habite mon quotidien e
 t m’incite à repousser\, à chaque nouvelle période de production\, les lim
 ites matérielles du médium papier par la délicatesse et la minutie que j’i
 ntègre à mes œuvres.\n\nCes dernières années\, j’ai commencé à travailler 
 avec des journaux très anciens que j’altère\, découpe\, fragilise et trans
 formes-en des objets d’art. En détournant la fonction d’origine de l’objet
  et en le rendant illisible\, je me questionne sur ma façon d’intervenir s
 ur ces archives\, surtout dans un monde où le support papier devient de pl
 us en plus rares pour les médias. Bien qu’il s’agisse d’un geste plutôt « 
 destructeur » à la base\, la lame de mon X-Acto ornemente et magnifie le j
 ournal. En ce sens\, j’aborderai les divers contrastes et tensions qui éme
 rgent dans ma pratique et qui font progresser mes recherches et mon corpus
  d’œuvres depuis la fin de mes études.»\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\nHolder 
 of an MFA from UQAM and represented by the Blouin-Division gallery\, Myria
 m Dion is a Franco-Canadian artist who lives and works in Montreal. In 202
 1\, her work was exhibited at the Musée d’art Contemporain de Montréal as 
 well as at Arsenal Contemporary Art New York following a creative residenc
 y at the NARS Foundation in Brooklyn. Over the past 3 years\, Dion has bee
 n the recipient of several Canada Council for the Arts grants and her work
  has been featured in several group exhibitions\, including at the Sharjah
  Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates\, Museum London in Ontario\, and t
 he Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. Her works can be found in many
  private and public collections\, including those of Desjardins\, Scotiaba
 nk\, TD Bank and Loto-Québec\, Claridge\, MACM and the MNBAQ. Recently\, M
 yriam was named the winner of the public art competition launched by the V
 ille de Montréal for the integration of a work of art at the north entranc
 e of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park.\n\nBiographie:\n\nTitulaire d’une maitrise 
 en arts visuels et médiatiques de l’UQAM et représentée par la galerie Blo
 uin-Division\, Myriam Dion est une artiste franco-canadienne qui vit et tr
 availle à Montréal. En 2021\, son travail a été exposé au Musée d’art cont
 emporain de Montréal ainsi qu’à Arsenal Contemporary Art New York à la sui
 te d’une résidence de création à la NARS Foundation à Brooklyn. Au cours d
 es trois dernières années\, Dion a été récipiendaire de trois bourses du C
 onseil des arts du Canada et son travail a été présenté dans plusieurs exp
 ositions collectives\, entre autres au Sharjah Art Museum aux Émirats arab
 es unis\, au Museum London en Ontario et au Musée national des beaux-arts 
 du Québec. Ses œuvres se retrouvent au sein de nombreuses collections priv
 ées et publiques\, dont celles de Desjardins\, de la Banque Scotia\, de la
  Banque TD et de Loto-Québec\, de Claridge\, du MACM et du prêt d’œuvres d
 u MNBAQ. Récemment\, Myriam a été désignée lauréate du concours d’art publ
 ic lancé par la Ville de Montréal pour l’intégration d’une œuvre d’art à l
 ’entrée nord du parc Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier.\n
