To be added to the waiting list\, ple ase email聽rsvp.libraries [at] mcgill.ca. Thank you.\n\nLecture given by聽Gw endolyn Owens\, Director\, 9I制作厂免费 Visual Arts Collection\n\nArt at 9I制作厂免费 has a long history. From 19th century portraits of James 9I制作厂免费 and other benefactors\, to large鈥搒cale embroideries presented on behalf of Alexandra \, the Queen Consort and wife of Edward VII of Great Britain\, to a sculpt ure by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney unveiled in 1931\, and a major collecti on of Canadian paintings given in the 1960s\, art has been present at McGi ll almost from the day it was founded.\n\nThis lecture will centre on the highlights of the collection鈥檚 history: the unique objects that are found in corridors and classrooms\, offices\, lobbies\, and in our new Visual St orage Gallery and the people (such as Group of Seven member Arthur Lismer) who had a hand in shaping the collection. Now numbering more than 3000 wo rks of art\, the collection is\, in some cases\, better known to scholars than to our own community who pass the objects\, often without 鈥渟eeing鈥 th e art or knowing the unique histories. Much of the art has come through do nations\, often made by bequest\, as alumni and friends have often seen th eir art collection as their legacy\; something that will go on beyond thei r lifetime to continually enrich campus life.\n\nPresented by the Friends of the 9I制作厂免费 Library in collaboration with the Visual Arts Collection & R OAAr\n\n聽\n DTSTART:20191017T213000Z DTEND:20191017T233000Z LOCATION:Rare Books and Special Collections\, 4th floor\, McLennan Library Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0C9\, 3459 rue McTavish SUMMARY:Lecture | If Walls Could Talk: A Short History of 9I制作厂免费鈥檚 Art Coll ection URL:/library-friends/channels/event/lecture-if-walls-c ould-talk-short-history-mcgills-art-collection-300371 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
