 ennial.\n\nAbout the speaker\n\nProfessor Obiora Chinedu Okafor is the Edw
 ard B. Burling Chair in International Law and Institutions at John Hopkins
  University鈥檚 School of Advanced International Studies in Washington DC\, 
 USA. He is the UN Independent Expert on Human Rights and International Sol
 idarity and a former Chairperson of the UN Human Rights Council Advisory C
 ommittee. He previously held the York Research Chair in International and 
 Transnational Legal Studies at Osgoode Hall\, York University\, Toronto\, 
 Canada\, and the Gani Fawehinmi Distinguished Chair in Human Rights Law at
  the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. He is a Professor at La
 rge at the University of Nigeria and has also served as a Visiting Profess
 or at a number of universities and institutes around the world. He was con
 ferred the Award of Academic Excellence of the Canadian Association of Law
  Teachers in 2010 and the Gold Medal for Exceptional Research and Major Co
 ntributions to Jurisprudence of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal S
 tudies in 2013. He is the author or co-editor of seven books and over 120 
 articles and other scholarly pieces.\n\nAbout the Humphrey Lecture in Huma
 n Rights\n\nThe John P. Humphrey Lectureship in Human Rights is an annual 
 lecture on the theme of the role of International Law and Organization in 
 the world-wide protection of Human Rights. The lecture was founded in 1988
  to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the drafting of the United Nations
  Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in recognition of the leadershi
 p of John P. Humphrey (BCL 1928) in the elaboration\, drafting\, and promo
