DESCRIPTION:It is with great enthusiasm that the Black Students' Network of
  9IÖĆ×÷ł§Ăâ·Ń (BSN) and the Black Law Students’ Association of Mcgill (BLSAM) ha
 ve joined this year for Black History Month 2019 to present a panel discus
 sion on systemic racism and discrimination in the Canadian context ahead o
 f the public consultation on the topic organized by the City of Montreal.
 \n\nAppetizers and light refreshments will be served from 17:30 to 18:15 t
 o allow for a period of networking and socializing\, followed by the confe
 rence\, which will take place from 18:30 to 21:30\, including a period of 
 questions from the audience.\n\nRSVP on EventBrite.\n\nThis unique multidi
 sciplinary panel aims to shed light on the realities of Black life in Cana
 da today by touching on such topics as racism and systemic discrimination 
 against Black communities. Our impressive roster of panelists will draw on
  their respective fields of expertise to try to dismantle many Canadian my
 ths which contribute to rendering anti-blackness invisible and deniable in
  Canada today. Is race an “issue of the past” or does it remain salient in
  contemporary Canadian society? What are the untold historical roots to an
 ti-blackness in Canada? In what ways does systemic racism and discriminati
 on manifest itself in a society in which egalitarian values such as libert
 y\, justice\, and fairness seem to prevail? Are we really much “better off
 ” than our southern neighbours? How can Black people overcome these variou
 s obstacles and strive in Canadian society? Such fundamental questions req
 uire a strong diagnostic\, dialogue\, input and debate and this panel disc
 ussion will set the stage for it!\n\nCome out with an open mind ready to l
 earn more about the realities of Black people in Canadian society through
