Urbanization has a great potential to be a great engineer to achi eve sustainable and inclusive development for all. About 6.25 billion peop le\, 15 per cent of them with disabilities\, are predicted to be living in urban centres by 2050.[1] Urban environments\, infrastructures\, faciliti es and services\, depending how they are planned and built\, can impede or enable access\, participation and inclusion of members of society.\n\nFor the 15 per cent of the world’s population who live with a disability\, (m any of whom live in urban areas)\, available evidence reveals a widespread lack of accessibility to built environments\, from roads and housing\, to public buildings and spaces and to basic urban services such as sanitatio n and water\, health\, education\, transportation\, and emergency and disa ster response and resilience building and access to information and commun ications. These accessibility limitations contribute greatly to the disadv antage and marginalization faced by persons with disabilities\, leading to disproportionate rates of poverty\, deprivation and exclusion. This situa tion also impedes the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Devel opment and other internationally agreed development goals.\n\nA request fo r accreditation for 1.5 hours of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for juri sts has been made.\n\n \n DTSTART:20171027T170000Z DTEND:20171027T183000Z LOCATION:NCDH 202\, Chancellor Day Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1W9\, 36 44 rue Peel SUMMARY:Governance of Inclusive Cities: Realization of Disability Rights URL:/law/channels/event/governance-inclusive-cities-re alization-disability-rights-273138 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
