 ries on women and the law kicks off this year with a talk by DCL alumna Dr
 . Karen Crawley\, Griffiths University\, Australia (abstract to come).\n\n
 About the speaker\n\nKaren Crawley is a graduate of the University of Sydn
 ey\, with Honours in English Literature and in Law\, and received her LLM 
 and DCL from 9I制作厂免费. Her dissertation\, Seeing Double: Ironic E
 ncounters between Art and Law\, examined the ironic effects of policing re
 presentations\, with case studies drawn from theatre censorship\, the pros
 ecution of graffiti artists\, and legal controversies over photographs.\n
 \nHer postgraduate research was supported by the Canada Research Chair in 
 Law and Discourse. She was the Ian C. Pilarczyk Fellow for Legal Methodolo
 gy at the 9I制作厂免费 Faculty of Law from 2007 to 2010\, designing and co-deliv
 ering a compulsory course on critical research and writing practices for g
 raduate students\, and she also worked for the Centre for Human Rights and
  Legal Pluralism\, coordinating the Global Conference on the Prevention of
  Genocide in 2007\, and co-curating an accompanying art exhibition.\n\nKar
 en has presented parts of her research at conferences in the United States
 \, Canada and Australia. 聽Her research is interdisciplinary\, drawing on l
 iterary theory\, semiotics\, visual culture\, cultural criminology\, legal
  geography and critical theory in order to explore issues of representatio
 n\, affect and irony in the regulation of speech and art.聽\n
