DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Intellectual Property and Policy (CIPP) welcomes
  Prof. Bernd Holznagel\, Director of the Institute for Information\, Telec
 ommunications and Media Law at the University of Münster in Germany\, and 
 a leading scholar on information law.\n\nInternational trade depends incre
 asingly upon the exchange of data. The European Court of Justice 'Safe Har
 bour' decision of 2015 has given rise to a political agreement between the
  EU and US on transatlantic data flows. This agreement is known as the Pri
 vacy Shield.\n\nIs this Privacy Shield framework sufficient to protect fun
 damental rights? On the other hand\, will data flow not ultimately require
  that jurisdictions such as the EU loosen their own internal requirements 
 so as to produce a level of comity? How should Canada respond to these dev
 elopments and is a Privacy Shield required here as well?\n\nThis event is
