It captures the social costs of legal ordering through intellectual property and offers alternative instit utions and regulatory options. “Beyond IP” is also a descriptive term that summarizes a growing number of contemporary information and cultural inst itutions\, which rest upon concepts of free content and free access as the ir building blocks.\n\nThis talk questions the conventional wisdom of crit ical copyright scholarship\, which tends to pair proprietary intellectual property protection with informational capitalism and the commodification of culture. It offers the first novel critical examination of the politica l economy of information markets that operate beyond the boundaries of IP. It shall be argued that tensions and dichotomies that we are accustomed t o attribute to 'IP-centric' regimes are tensions and dichotomies which may appear\, or even be stimulated\, also by copyright’s negative spaces and certain beyond IP legal regimes. Beyond IP market realms tend to conflict with the values of cultural democracy\, informational privacy and creative diversity.\n\nThis analysis bears significant normative implications on t he desirability of contemporary approaches\, which support legal reforms t owards beyond IP legal regimes.\n DTSTART:20160317T170000Z DTEND:20160317T183000Z LOCATION:NCDH 316\, Chancellor Day Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1W9\, 36 44 rue Peel SUMMARY:Beyond IP - The Cost of Free Informational Capitalism in a Post IP Era URL:/law/channels/event/beyond-ip-cost-free-informatio nal-capitalism-post-ip-era-259143 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
