He is a qualified German lawyer and is admitt ed to the bar in Hamburg. Prior to joining LES\, he worked as a research f ellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Privat e Law in Hamburg (1998-2004) and was appointed as an assistant professor a t the HEC School of Management\, Paris (2004-2008).\n\nDr. Kleinheisterkam p is currently working on an intellectual history of international arbitra tion\, which analyses the genealogy\, the competition and cross-fertilizat ion of conceptions of\, and discourses on\, arbitration in various jurisdi ctions\, its role as a tool of self-regulation of the commercial world and its relation to the State in a globalized economy. He co-heads the LSE Tr ansnational Law Project and his research focuses mainly on international c ontracts\, with special emphasis on arbitration\, conflict of laws\, and c omparative law.
