It captur es the social costs of legal ordering through intellectual property and of fers alternative institutions and regulatory options. “Beyond IP” is also a descriptive term that summarizes a growing number of contemporary inform ation and cultural institutions\, which rest upon concepts of free content and free access as their building blocks.\n\nThis talk questions the conv entional wisdom of critical copyright scholarship\, which tends to pair pr oprietary intellectual property protection with informational capitalism a nd the commodification of culture. It offers the first novel critical exam ination of the political economy of information markets that operate beyon d the boundaries of IP. It shall be argued that tensions and dichotomies t hat we are accustomed to attribute to 'IP-centric' regimes are tensions an d dichotomies which may appear\, or even be stimulated\, also by copyright ’s negative spaces and certain beyond IP legal regimes. Beyond IP market r ealms tend to conflict with the values of cultural democracy\, information al privacy and creative diversity.\n\nThis analysis bears significant norm ative implications on the desirability of contemporary approaches\, which support legal reforms towards beyond IP legal regimes.\n DTSTART:20160317T170000Z DTEND:20160317T183000Z LOCATION:NCDH 316\, Chancellor Day Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1W9\, 36 44 rue Peel SUMMARY:Beyond IP - The Cost of Free Informational Capitalism in a Post IP Era URL:/law/fr/channels/event/beyond-ip-cost-free-informa tional-capitalism-post-ip-era-259143 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
