ISID ADVISING: Effective听Currently

Types of Advising at ISID and OASIS:

IDS Program Advising provides the following:

  1. IDS Program navigation:听The IDS program advisors听explain听program rules, structure, and requirements to ensure students are on the right track.
  2. IDS Course planning:听They help students select appropriate courses and understand prerequisites.听They review and approve TR credits for IDS Students intending to studyaway or听go on exchange. They review and approve 'substitution request' which are courses that exist at 9I制作厂免费 but are not part of the IDS program list.
  3. Goal setting:听They听guide听students in identifying and then planning to meet their academic goals.
  4. Resource connection:听They听act as a link to other campus services and resources that can help students succeed.
  5. IDS and Faculty of Arts Policy clarifications:听IDS Advisors听explain important academic policies, procedures, and consequences for not meeting them.
  6. IDS Progress tracking:听IDS Advisors check a student's academic progress to ensure they are on track for graduation.
  7. Support:听They provide proactive support via connecting听9I制作厂免费 students to the appropriate departments at 9I制作厂免费 for help. In particular, students who are听struggling or need additional assistance, should be in regular contact with the different advisors at 9I制作厂免费. Mainly OASIS.
  8. Approve: They approve IDS Majors, Minors, Honours and Joint Honours for graduation for the Fall, Winter, and Summer graduation terms.听

If you wish to see a Program Advisor FOR THE ABOVE REASONS see below the following options:

Majors, Honours and Joint Honours:听Honours and Jt Honours IDS students should be meeting regularly with Lisa (once a term).

  • take听an appointment with听. Prior to your appointment, list concisely in an email your questions and a list of courses you have taken for IDS (FAQ: 22, 23, 24)听and then email听lisa.stanischewski [at] mcgill.ca (subject: IDS%20Questions) (Student Advisor)听so she may be prepare to discuss your questions at your appointment.

Minors:

  • Minors in IDS, email听kirsty.mckinnon [at] mcgill.ca (IDS Student Affairs Advisor听)with your questions.

NOTE: Advisingwill take place via email or online (Teams).The online appointment is held through MS Teams (works on mobile, desktop, or through a browser). Before your appointment, be sure to have properly setup .

NOTE: Appointments can change due to last minute advisor availability. Always check your 9I制作厂免费 email.

In-Person appointments: should be requested in advance to lisa.stanischewski [at] mcgill.ca (Lisa.) Keeping in mind Lisa is able to see students in person Mon-Friday (most weeks) in the morning hours. Online advising is much quicker and more efficient.
