DESCRIPTION:\n	\n		The Art of FreedomSchooling\n	\n\n\nLeRoi Newbold is a Toron
 to based educator and activist who develops arts-based Afrocentric/Black f
 ocused curriculum and has worked with children and youth for over 18 years
  as a teacher\, early childhood educator\, youth facilitator and arts faci
 litator\, including ten years as a teacher at TDSB's Africentric Alternati
 ve School. In 2019 he was one of three recipients of the OTIP Teaching Awa
 rd for his contributions to curriculum development\, Black centred pedagog
 y\, and his work bringing principles of transformative justice to the clas
 sroom.\n\nLeRoi is a co-founder and director of Freedom School - Toronto\,
  a free\, three week program for children aged four to ten that was create
 d in response to a lack of humanizing\, self-affirming\, queer-positive ed
 ucational opportunities for Black children in the GTA. Freedom school is a
 bout to enter it’s 5th year\, practicing diverse arts-based programming wh
 ich teaches children about Black Canadian and diasporic history\, engages 
 them in political resistance to anti-Black racism and state violence throu
 gh a trans-feminist lens\, and introduces them to various approaches to co
