The changes have been so fast and numerous that providers of l egal services and the public have had trouble keeping up\, as have many tr ans people. Moreover\, despite these changes\, marginalization and exclusi on remain part of the lived reality of many trans individuals and communit ies. Questions arise about who remains “on the margins” of trans legal cha nge\, and about the unintended consequences of recent law reforms. \n\nOn the Margins of Trans Legal Change is a two-day symposium that will provide a platform to reflect critically on recent legal changes and to consider the challenges facing individuals whom law reform has yet to reach. This s ymposium will stimulate the development\, exchange\, and translation of in terdisciplinary knowledge and community expertise about the aftermath of l egal reform and the possibilities for social justice with\, and beyond\, t he law. We will survey legislative\, policy\, and community-based solution s that aim to better recognize and protect diverse trans communities\, and to advance their flourishing. The symposium will showcase analyses of the current Canadian trans legislative framework and identify its gaps and un intended consequences. It will also foster and sustain a network of establ ished and emerging scholars\, community advocates\, and legal service prov iders across Canada.\n\nParticipants in the symposium will ask: What can w e learn from research evidence and community projects addressing the exper iences and perspectives of the populations and individuals whose vulnerabi lities\, needs\, or aspirations legal reforms have failed to meet? What ar e some of the potential uses and misuses of law as a tool for trans emanci pation? Which realities and worldviews do dominant legal orders erase? Whe re is there space for transformative change.\n DTSTART:20190501T210000Z DTEND:20190501T230000Z LOCATION:CA\, QC\, Montreal\, Maxwell Cohen Moot Court\, 9I Law\, NCGH 10\, 3644 Peel St. SUMMARY:Public Legal Information Workshop: On the Margins of Trans Legal Ch ange URL:/igsf/channels/event/public-legal-information-work shop-margins-trans-legal-change-294663 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
