What we do

Horizon is a homegrown multi-year initiative with one simple goal: help 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ work better.

Specifically, we examine and improve University processes – procurement, academic program delivery, admissions, our budget model, and much more. By trimming costs, finding new revenues, making better use of our resources, shortening turnaround times and boosting community satisfaction, we’ll help ensure that 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ remains a global leader in a fast-changing world.

To make this happen, we’ve launched working groups with a mandate to rework our processes and structures and more effectively and efficiently meet our community’s needs.

The small Horizon Office team is the central hub for this work: leading and guiding change, connecting changemakers across our community, and providing the resources and expertise to make change a reality. But much of the improvement will be made in Faculties and Units across our campuses, by people like you.

Why does 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ need Horizon?

Horizon was conceived and launched because of  linked to government measures. To safeguard 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ’s finances and advance our academic mission, we’ll need to both find new revenues and make better use of the funds we have.

But that’s not the whole picture.

Like many large, longstanding organizations, 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ has developed some inefficiencies over time. For example, some administrative processes include too many steps, take too long, cost too much, and haven’t incorporated technologies that could improve service to students, faculty and staff. We’re doing many things well, but it’s clear that there are some things we could be doing better. And while our finances have made change more urgent, these are areas we’d want to improve anyway. Horizon is our opportunity to do this.
