Assessing the impact of workplace factors can be particularly challenging. In this semin ar I will talk about the some of these challenges and how we have chosen t o address them in our Canadian burden of occupational cancer project. In p articular\, I will focus on the choice of appropriate relative risk estima tes\, the methods to assess historic exposure\, the shape of dose-response relationships\, and the impact of these choices on the magnitude of burde n estimates\, using diesel engine exhaust and crystalline silica as exampl es.
