DESCRIPTION:Despite its chequered history in relation to human rights issue
 s\, South Africa has been playing host to peoples displaced and dispossess
 ed by geographies of anger and war\, poverty\, economic meltdown and other
  human rights atrocities. Qualified teachers have been among the sizeable 
 cohort of professionals seeking a new home in South Africa. Drawing on pos
 tcolonial theory\, deconstructionist conceptions of hospitality and critic
 al feminist notions of communities of practice\, this talk reports on a qu
 alitative study with seven refugee teachers. It explores their personal an
 d professional experiences. The talk also explores the dialectic of refuge
